Japan vs Croatia 2022 World Cup Round of 16: Date, Kick-off Time and TV Channel

After defeating Germany in the teams’ opening match, Japan advanced to the round of 16 of the World Cup on Thursday with beat Spain 2-1 – the same margin they are defeated the four-time world champions.

Japan scored twice early in the second half to come from behind to beat another European powerhouse and advance to the knockout stages of a second straight World Cup.

This is the first time that Japan has advanced through the group stage in consecutive tournaments.

“For Asia and Japan, our wins over Spain and Germany, the two best teams in the world, is something that gives us a lot of confidence and we are very pleased,” said Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu.

“Of course we still have a lot to learn, but Asia can win on the world stage, Japan can win on the world stage.”

How has Japan fared so far?

Japan achieved two remarkable victories in the group stage to top Group E: against four-time champions Germany and 2010 winners Spain.

They showed their giant-killing pedigree as they came back from 1-0 down against either side, although the match against Spain was not without controversy as the ball appeared to go out of play before the final pass for Japan’s winner.

Despite those two monumental victories, Japan somehow suffocated against tournament outsiders Costa Rica, losing 1-0 to a side that had been beaten 7-0 by Spain on the fourth day of the tournament.

How did Croatia do?

Croatia are unbeaten so far in the tournament – scoring just one goal – and finished second in Group F after goalless draws against Morocco and Croatia and a convincing 4-1 win over Canada.

Morocco cemented their dark horse status in this tournament after defeating Belgium and Canada to finish on top.
